A sit harness consists of a waist belt and two leg loops which are normally connected in the front of the hips through a permanent webbing loop called a belay loop. These are the most commonly used harnesses for recreational activities such as abseiling and rock climbing, as they afford a wide range of movement while still maintaining a high level of safety.

A chest harness is worn around the shoulders, usually with a sit harness so as to provide an additional attachment point. This attachment point allows for better balance in some situations such as when carrying a heavy pack (as the center of mass is below the connection to the rope) and when the person in the harness may be unable to maintain an upright position (due to injury or other influences). It provides additional stability when climbing. Designed for indoor and institutional use, the harness features color-coded nylon webbing to make it easier to put on. For adjustments, you can use the buckles. The harness must be worn with a sit harness. It cannot be used alone. A chest harness helps to stabilize the upper body.

A full-body safety harness is the combination of a sit harness and a chest harness which are permanently or semi-permanently connected to each other. This kind of harness normally offers a wide range of attachment points. It is most commonly used in industrial/rescue situations, and also commonly used by small children instead of a sit harness which is easier to slip out of. Designed with a higher-positioned belay loop, this harness automatically generates a stable position. A full-body harness sits on and around or wraps the user’s shoulders, waist, and upper legs providing support to the whole body. It comes with a fall indicator, build in to warn the user about the arrest in the incident of a fall. D-rings are also provided with a harness, which can be used for suspension or for holding equipment. A full-body harness, because it secures the whole body and gives support, gives maximum protection in the event of a fall.
